GHIC Receives Additional BARDA Funding

March 10, 2022

Since receiving its initial installment of BARDA funding in September 2021 following completion of preliminary partnership milestones, GHIC has received additional BARDA funding, totaling $21.6 million. These funds will be used by GHIC to invest directly in companies that develop and commercialize technologies and medical products to strengthen global health security and pandemic preparedness, as well as generate a financial return.

Under the terms of the GHIC-BARDA agreement, BARDA plans to provide GHIC with a minimum of $50 million over five years with the potential for up to $500 million over 10 years, subject to availability of funding.

GHIC has commenced investment activities through direct investments in eligible companies, and subsequently, will make additional investments through the establishment of a global health security investment fund, along with matching capital from the public, philanthropic, and private sectors. As the investments generate financial returns, proceeds from BARDA Ventures funding will be reinvested by GHIC to generate additional health security impact.
